Over the pond we have HGTV, supposedly Home & Garden Television. First year's programming was a good balance, but now it seems they let a gardening programme on perhaps once a year...and that by accident. I wish there could be an international gardening channel showing ALL forms of gardening around the world and for all TYPES of gardeners, newbies, oldies, veggie lovers, etc. With climate change, the international aspect would be quite interesting and educational. (Perhaps then Canadian gardeners could get their Monty fix.). Parts of North America are very much like the UK so GW would suit nicely if only it were available here.

    Hi

We used to have something similar here, UKTV Gardens. Ok it mostly showed repeats though I found that useful being at work all day anyway and I knew I could spend a blissful weekend of tv with cuppa in hand. In fact I managed to learn most of what I know now about gardening/garden design from there. Unfortunately the channel ceased early 2009.

Considering gardening/growing your own is allegedly in the top 3 leisure pursuits (according to a gent on the evening news recently when discussing the building of a larger garden centre) there seems to be a lack of 'new' gardening programmes, or even repeats. There once was a gardening show with a quiz theme twist (name eludes me) and a number of programmes which showed how to improve your garden (particularly for those who have limited garden pottering time available like me!). Surely there is room for this in tv schedules considering the amount of other daytime drivel that's on. With the local town centre holding Gardeners' Markets and the need for garden centre expansions surely that shows there is enough public interest to warrant such shows?

I find myself looking forward to the Chelsea Flower Show in the hope that it will have numerous programmes on all week as in previous years.
