Shortchanged again-no programme 2 weeks ago -some people got married or something-and when last week told starting at 8 pm was I alone in thinking oh good a 60 minute programme - oh no a film was on at the usual time-this weeks programme was rushed -showed little of the show and as I dont live anywhere near Malvern I shall probably never go.
I know we will probably get the usual saturation coverage of Chelsea in a few weeks time but come-on at this time of the gardening year I want more than my 30minute fix per week- what has happened to the 60 minute programmes we have had in previous years?
This is not a moan - just an observation!!!
Did not go to the Malvern Show but at least a one hour GW would have done it and us better justice.
Presenters review-Monty comfortable-CK continues to gush with over-egged enthusiasm-Rachel does not look at ease and Joe is still ducking and diving as one of the "lads". Otherwise watchable for what it was but still a bit surprised, although very impressive, that cacti got BIS!!.
A decent enough programme. I'm not a big fan of these 'specials', but this one was OK. However, I'm afraid I just don't 'get' Rachel. What is it that she actually contributes to any programme, that practically anyone else couldn't bring. She's never provided any originality to anything she's been in, and now that the glamour has faded a bit, she's really exposed for what she is (or isn't). As for poor Joe, he must have a wonderful contract that can keep him continually turning up on the programme. Perhaps if we could just get him to stick an 'r' at the end of appropriate words, I could at least listen to the guy without cringing. But to hear him churn out 'summaa', 'wintaa' and 'designaa' in his funereal style every time he appears, is hard to bear.

Aww, Ken, you're just getting old & past it....never mind, me too!
Some hereabouts even see M D as secksy and I don't get that one either.
If you're lurking Mr Monnty (sic) cut my first sweet peas (Oct sown) today, how's yours doing?
Ken Smart I completely agree with you, the Rachel/Joe show gets so tedious, monotanous and boring.
We all know whay Rachels on TV....she looks nice.
as for Joe, can't think of one reason.
Get some proper old boys on the show that have been gardening 40 years plus that have some proper credentials. BBc forget the over the top lavish descriptions of everything and get REAL!!!!!
GW is such superficial load of old rubbish, I am amazed anyone watches it.
Zam.
i love it. a perfect antidote to my stressful week. vote with your feet eh zam? off you go.
You know what Mr P, if I'm around on a friday, i do put it on....always in the hope that I will watch some good TV that I have come to expect from the Beeb, I usually last about 2mins before I feel like vomiting into my chicken tikka masala!!
yep vote with your feet folks!
i would say that the 大象传媒 is responsible for some very poor tv. from eastenders to saturday primetime- full of absolute rubbish. pandering to the modern engand of the brainless morons- but that is reflected in all the other terrestrial television channels. case in point, Mad Men. the best tv i have seen in years and they secrete it away to a late hour on an obscure channel.
Yeah, well that is indicitive of modern culture unfortunately MR P, either that or the 大象传媒 assumes evreyone that watches the box on a saturday is a complete vegetable and is incapable of understanding anything that doesn't involve base level humour.
It is all part of dumbing down the nation, perhaps a goverment conspiracy to keep the masses quite and not thinking about the morons running our country.
....and believe me Mr P, I'm no rocket scientist but I do want more interlectual stimulation than I'm given on a friday or saturday night.
....
Zam
I think it's time that the 大象传媒 realised that Monty and folks (Joe, Rachel and Carol) are getting so predictable. Monty saying all the right things with the syrupy smile, Joe being one of the boys, Carol over enthusiastic all the time and Rachel looking pretty! Sorry, but the programme has gone downhill and I won't be watching in future.

Sorry presenter fans but I agree with this and I know this doesn't sound right out but I think carol's arm waving and enthusiam is just an act for the cameras and I just find her really annoying-and strangely it's Monty's walking with his huge strides -is he some kind of giant or something???
Picky or what!!
.
Yes my dear - I'd say picky!
How Monty walks and Carol uses her arms is not really that important is it?
Perhaps you'd prefer royal shuffles and ridid waveswaving?
Gardening can be an exuberant pastime - all that fresh air and excercise?
Delight and dismay?
Smiles and tears - striding and waving?

I said I was being picky but is probably a symptom of the programme that I am being distracted by this -I should get out more
Incidentally what is what is ridid waveswaving?

Did anyone notice the expression on the chap's face who was watching Monty talk in the flower tent early on in the programme?
I think the producers must have a great sense of humour to keep that in!!
I'm off to watch it again on iPlayer
Sorry - my computer is in the kitchen and things were coming to crisis point on the cooker.
Anyway - you know what I mean -the Royal wave that protects the wrist and arm from fatigue

Ah, but you see, yours are a mere 鈥榝our inches tall鈥 because (hate to shatter any illusions) you take too much notice of advice given by Monty Don.
鈥淪pill the secrets please鈥濃ou hadn鈥檛 noticed that I already have???
Mine are flowering too, as are lots of other people's with whom I'm in touch - some ( like DK) in the midlands and some even in the north west.....loads flowering in the south east, mine are about 10 days earlier than usual
Friday's programme ok I thought

Programme was to short, two of the pesenters are dead wood, not enough showing of products,Monty and Carole was in good form and did anybody notice a bit of tension when they where all talking at the big round table..
PS I think Toby done a couple of demonstration in last years show,I think he his much more public friendly.
PPP.
The real problem isn't the programme but it's title. It's no longer 'Gardeners World' but 'Monty's World'.
Still not on iPlayer....! WHy?
Probably becuase its a load of old rubbish and no one wants to watch it!

David - gardening isn't a race you know.

Broadcast restrictions due to being a special at the Malvern Show.
Same as Beechgrove on community garden away days.
I like Malvern although a little close to Chelsea I think. And remember they have to give Montys garden a chance to catch up. My main moan about Flower show coverage is last year on the members day. The blasted 大象传媒 camera crews pushed us out of the way of every show garden to film. We never got a lookin on two, they were a complete pain in the Aspidistra.
"David - gardening isn't a race you know."
Quite agree, but I was responding to Monty being being dismissive of autumn sowing.
hmm, the whole programme was at the show, not quite sure how you came to the conclusion that you saw little of the show. How much more could be shown in half an hour?
There will be a lot of viewers who will never go to Malvern but will enjoy the show. I will never go to the Grand Prix in Monaco or to the antarctic to watch polar bears - it doesn't mean I don't want to watch F1 or David Attenborough.
if you don't like it, don't watch it.
Dear Girlgardener,
Your a girl and watch F1??
Will you marry me?!
Zam (an eligable batchelor) xx
f1? says it all ..........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Don't make me angry-If you had read my original post I asked why couldn't the programme be 60 minutes- I off to talk to the chickens now - at least they take notice of what I say!!
I have to say i am disapointed in the programme. What i would like to see is extra programmes when shows are on so weekly advice can still be dispensed. As for the presenters i suppose we all have different opinions. Personally i am a fan of Carol. I think her knowledge and enthusiasm are great to watch and would like to see more of her giving practical advice instead of being sent to look at gardens. At the moment i do prefer beechgrove as i think it is a much better format.
Given they have only 30 minutes, I think they wasted time:-
The team bonhomie round the table? Better to have each one show their favourite bit of the show in that time.
Presenting best in show to the cactus lady? Very nice but they're houseplants in the UK and of little or no interest to outside gardeners.
Display gardens? I'd rather see one or two in detail than several in brief flits. They could all have chosen their favourite and explained why.
The floral marquee - loved the bit with Fernatix but failed to see why Monty had to take us back to the same grower Carol had featured. Would have liked more plants for more situations and all theteam's favoruite plant.
Malvern, Harrogate, Hampton Court and Tatton all deserve at least an hour and I'd like them to visit the Scottish equivalent too.
Some of the plant stands at these shows are sumptuous but we didn't get to see them on Friday and probably won't at the others which is a shame for those viewers who will never get to one of these shows because of time, financial or distance constraints.
Again as the beed had to go backwards with these old presentors Monty , Carol and Rachel have had thire day get back to Toby and Alys to inspire the younger generation of gardeners
Carol slurping around the hedge row what was that about get her out of this programe get back to new presenters this new set of programs I find boring and old hat iy didnt work in ATs gardens so it will not do any better in Montys
I now watch Beechwood on iPlayer. Proper gardening though probably wouldn't attract many of the new young gardeners out there. Presenters are not hired for their good looks! (Apologies to all). GW seems to be getting better weekly (when its on!) but I still have to record it so that I can fast forward through the effete R-D-Thame and irritating Swift bits. Who does RTD know in the Beeb to be given this job again???? We need a mix of knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic young and 'not so young' presenters. Alys was a great choice but there are others out there - how about Matt James to get the youngsters watching?! Come on 大象传媒. You can do better!
Yes, I am female and like F1, football, fashion and gardening! But I'm afraid I'll have to turn you down on the marriage proposal!
Oh well.....worth a try!
Could have been so good girl gardener!!
