Interesting- so basically you have to have a face for tv- doesnt matter about your training-funny how alan tichmarsh coped?-is he not professionally trained?

As you say, yet another article by someone (I'd never heard of) who seems compelled to write (poorly) about things he clearly knows little about. His bottom line seems to be an appeal to our consciences to support the poor professional gardeners who hardly get a chance on TV. I've no problem at all with this in principle, BUT, strangely the people he cites as his professional gardeners are the very people who made a pig's ear of the programme when they were given the chance. I'm afraid this is just another person who is trying hard to make a personality of himself.

hello ken smart
the guy matthew is from hortweek, he does know his omioms and he is not trying to makre a personality of himself, he is matthew from hort week which is the industry magazine.. the comments from the guardian readers are classic though. read through them all, its just a collection of smugness from planet smug. a quick pop at the bbc, some confusion, fantastic nonsense and an overwhelming "BLUUURRRGGGHHHH" of vomit. and then just that fantastic brand of ill informed rubbish you can only really find on the darker frontiers of the internet.
i am definately going to sign up for the guardian comment threads.
