According to today's Mirror next friday 17th June both programmes will start at 8pm- there headline is "TV Turf War"
20 years ago this might have mattered but in these days of time-shift television will it really make a difference and will just annoy those who can't watch at a different time or in a different way?
According to the paper the bbc say we were here first- just seems to me spiteful scheduling and not in the viewers interest and I am guessing with Wimbledon coming up GW will be kicked of the screen for 2 weeks anyway.
Supposed a sort of ratings war with no winners!
Geoff
Don't give a monkeys, both have their faults and conversely their redeeming features. A trained chimp could present for all I care, I pick out the bits that interest, inspire ideas or are useful to me in a program. The other bits will attract others. Bored of this who is better rollocks on here.
Iplayer or +1 depending on what's on the schedules.

Hear, hear cufcskim, this whole business of who is the better presenter, the better programme, the better garden etc, etc, etc, it is sooo boring and repetitive, if you don't like the presenter don't watch, but don't watch the programme only to harp about this, that or the other it just drives me mad
NDC
Why are you so angry - the discussion is really about tv scheduling not presenters and how it affects viewers- not everybody has alternative ways of watching a tv programme.
So dont get mad.(please)
Geoff
Interesting to note that the last sentence of this article says 鈥淭he 大象传媒 said its show (GW) was a regular fixture鈥濃︹..it鈥檚 the way they tell em!

You have noticed where you are if not let me remind you, this is a TV and Radio garden message board where members post their views and opinions on gardening TV and radio shows and the people who front them..

When you have finished jumping up and down you might go back to the original posting- I was just pointing out a scheduling war and said did it really matter but also that not all people have other means if viewing.
If this was Eastenders and Coronation Street on at the same time questions would be asked in Parliament-I was only saying how crazy it is!!

It may well be a deliberate schedule battle but I do think Friday night is the logical time for a gardening show that makes you want to get up in the morning and go and do good things in the garden. As far as I can see, AT' s programme is to be a How To based on achieving various styles of garden rather than a magazine programme like GW. There is room for both on my TV.
Most viewers will have some form of recording device, be it video or digibox, and UK viewers can also catch up on i-player.
Some people ( a couple of newbies spring to mind) like, both the sound of their own keyboard, and to be deliberately provocative.I have stopped replying to either of them.I like healthy, robust discussion and even honest disharmony, and after all this board is about our opinions on both tv programmes and by extension the presenters who shape those programmes.
I don't like MD, but think GW is ok.
I do like AT and am looking forward to his programme - I just hope there is a decent amount of gardening in it
The only snag with an itv programme is you only only actually get 23 mins - but heh it is 23 mins more than now!

Unless it's gone unnoticed, let me point out that my own comments here are always directed at programmes or their presenters (is that not the purpose of these boards) and NEVER at other posters.

Good morning all,
I do think some of you misunderstood why I posted my original post. I too am happy to have TWO gardening programmes on our TV. I like Monty although it originally took me a while to get use to him, I also like AT although I sometimes think he's in love with his own celebrity, but to come on here some of the time and see some of the comments regarding some of the presenters can sometimes feels uncomfortable. They must sometimes come on these boards and read these comments and feel awful.
I agree that we have a right to our own opinions and have the right to write it but as I've previously said it can sometimes read and feel uncomfortable.
Then it' s a from me- and I am with you on the vitriol that so often appears!!

I know David, the comment wasn't directed at you.
There are however some on these boards that think they can post personal or insulting comments about presenters and posters and believe no-one has a right to disagree. The world doesn't work like that. If you post on a public forum you invite debate on your opinions.
I'd suggest that if these contributors are so insecure they can't take criticism themselves, perhaps they shouldn't dish it out in the first place.
Stating you believe (eg) some information given out is wrong is fine. Someone posting in reply they believe it is correct is fine. Perhaps if people were more considerate of the impact their message may have, or if it could be worded less contensiously, some of the bad blood that seems to have developed may disappear. Nothing wrong with differing viewpoints, no need to be nasty about it though.
You know what they say - opinions are like buttholes. Everyone's got one
David - you have a short memory - you called me ga ga last week, didn't you?

Paul, you haven't missed anything - it's going to be a delight tonight to have an hour.
I just hope certain posters can refrain from making it into a petty war about nothing.

Look at the heading 17th June thats what you missed.......
I don't think we need to wait until next week. I watched both programmes tonight and in my opinion Monty won by a mile.
I learnt nothing new in Alans Love your Garden other than how to squander your heating allowance on a tree fern. SHAMEFULL.
My dad once spent his heating allowance on a new coat, pair of slippers and a TV.

At least that lady had the money in the bank when she wrote out the cheque
AT- good program well shot but more a lifestyle program - I enjoyed seeing an exceptionally well laid out garden. I would have liked to have seen an aerial plan of the garden and some idea of its actual dimension. 1/2 hour went very quickly. Nice to see that they had started with small gardens
MD - veg and herb growers weekly again as far as I am concerned. Together with a jaunt to France. Totally uninspiring
AT 15 - MD luvvy

what exactly are you insinuating by that comment?
True. But the general bitchiness of this forum never ceases to amaze me. Heck, I keep returning though. Record one, watch the other. Haven't got a recorder, buy one. Get a friend to record it. Get over it.
Our garden is open to the public today as part of the village garden safari. MotoGP and the Canadian F1 will be recorded and watched later.
Morning peeps....
Button to win Montreal GP....Vettel crashes on first lap!
Zam
Ever so slightly off topic- unless he crashes into a some-ones front garden and the FIA send a tv gardener round to fix it- then spot on

Loved both programs, but for me GW wins everytime.
AT - Love the bloke, brilliant Gardener, presenter and all round good egg. I could watch him in the garden all day and everyday BUT this program was not a gardening program parse. More of a living type program that to be honest could have been shown on a lunchtime slot. Dont get me wrong, we saw a fantastic garden, and a great tip to hide a pond edge, cooking with honey ?? Not sure. Enjoyable but its just not GW.
MD - Well, another great program, i just love Monty as presenter and im starting to love the many different parts to his garden. He really puts it in as after all, its HIS garden that he is showing us. All the tips and things he does and show us are REAL , if that makes any sense. In otherwords he would have done it anyway regardless of camera's being present. Even the vedge bit im starting to enjoy. I dont do vedge as a gardener myself (some strawberries in pots that it), but i just love seeing the passion in his eyes. And it shows to all those MD haters, his garden is not filled with vedge, he has borders, a hot court yard, dry garden, wet spring garden, formal hedge, everything. And its not see neatly preened as Greenacre. A REAL garden. That with Carole's loved garden and a visit to France, well fantastic.
Keep it up the BEEB.

Dear Paul N,
You don't happen to live in Colchester do you?
We had a community open gardens things going on yesterday as well.
Shame it was raining most of the day but there were lots of people about for it.
Great day in other people's gardens! Inspirational.
