Having followed Joe Swift's advice last year on growing and showing specific vegetables we have just obtained first place and 'best in show' for some sweet candle carrots at our local allotment show. All good fun, and they taste good too. Many thanks to Joe for a well presented and informative programme, and please could we have more specialist programmes along the same lines. Many thanks.

Congrats from me too.
I`m taking the plunge this weekend and entering some sweet candle in the stump rooted category at our local show.
I hope I do as well as you but I`m expecting lots of old timers eyeing me from under their flat caps !
I thought the episode where Joe did some growing for show was good. The bloke who was mentoring him was hilarious !

Well done. You must be very pleased. I honestly couldn't imagine Joe giving anyone good veg growing advice after his allotment fiasco but, as PJ says, the old bloke was great fun and very knowledgeable.

For the purposes of the GW Joe took over an allotment from scratch-some people- probably seasoned allotment holders thought it was dreadful-I quite enjoyed it -but you cant please everbody.
The annoying thing it hasnt been mentioned for ages -so no idea if he still has allotment or not.

He, or the ´óÏó´«Ã½ gave up the allotment after one season.

I don't suppose the shed he bought would have lasted the winter.!!
He bought an absolute wreck of a shed !
I couldn't believe he parted with money for it!
The bloke should have paid someone to take it away for kindling!

There is a poster on A4A who belongs to the same allotment site and has posted about it. The shed was a special dispensation as there are rules on that site saying no sheds. Joe did indeed abandon his allotment and the crops once it was clear TB was taking over and veggies would be done by him and Alys at Greenacres.
The next time we saw Joe doing veg was in pots in his own garden and with the help of an expert.

Hi.
I got 1st place for my carrots which I was really chuffed with. I also entered a marrow in the large category which I also won. It wasn`t a really biggun (35Lb) but really pleased none the less.
I`m going to do more next year, it`s addictive !
