December's GW magazine popped through my letterbox this morning. In it is a review of his gardening year and the related programmes, by Montague Don Esquire. It would appear that we are to be regale with a new series of programmes from his garden next year, a treat for us all.
He mentions that he now has 2 full time gardeners to help him and Mrs Don, so we are in for even greater transformations next series..................
Well I think that's good news.
Well there's a surprise I wasn't expecting that
Strewth!!! Will we never be rid of him?
Just need Steve McClaren to come back to manage the England football team and we have a full set.
Hopefully not David. If nothing else he creates discussion on this board and gives the moaners something to moan about and supporters someone to support.
How dull would life be if there was nothing to debate?
Steve McClaren though. Pushing it a bit far imo....!
How funny, Lowena! Haven't read the Monty bit yet but very pleased to see Toby back in the magazine. About time too!
Sorry Lowena - didn't mean to give you a shock.....
Now, if I just knew what david was talking about.....
Who knows? Another change of presenter wasn't on the cards so soon, and Steve McLaren has more sense...........
Perhaps he needs to get sowing his sweet peas............
Must be great having the benefit of licence fee payers underwrite your life, home, garden and family. He's got it all!

You could say that about any ´óÏó´«Ã½ tv presenter -it is a job,he gets paid, just happens to be by the ´óÏó´«Ã½-this messageboard is funded out of the licence fee after all .
Heaven knows I am no fan of Monty Don, but TDC is right, it was the same for Alan Titchmarsh and Geoff Hamilton.....and the owners of Berryfields got all the perks and didn't do any of the work at all!
Hopefully one of the gardeners is an attractive women who can provide some ease to the eye in the potting shed.

The difference being that they were not failed businessmen with a patchy knowledge of gardening.
Steady David - one step futher and you you will be in libel territory.

Nooj - If you look at the feature article in the Daily Mail Saturday magazine a while ago you will also see a nice little statement about buying trees and writing out cheques............... I am surprised it was put into print, but confirmed my opinion
As far as I am concerned it cannot be libel if the statement is true
I'm not a Mail reader so haven't seen it.
I do know that lots of publications take a view that if someone decides to sue,. how much would they win, set it against our profits ,.
can we afford to take a chance sort of thing.
A very grubby business
It is no secret that Monty's jewellery business collapsed-he has said this himself in print and in interviews.
Where I would take issue is with David's "patchy gardening knowledge" comment-which I take as a his own opinion-I find that a little harsh and unworthy.

nooj - the said article was written with MD as he has a column in the Mail as well. It explained that when they went to a tree auction they bought rather a lot of items - they then wrote a cheque out for the items. You need to read the article for the context.
As someone who has lost quite a bit of money when other people have declared bankruptcy - only to find them living in large houses and enjoying a nice lifestyle on the back of money they have effectively stolen from me and other people. Bring back debtors prison as far as I am concerned. If we did perhaps we would not be in the mess we are now in as a country - its too easy to rack up big debts and live the high life and then get it written off. No shame any more IMHO

Cody - What I would like to see him say in print is now that he is now solvent again that he has gone back to the people/organisations he owed money too when he had been made bankrupt and made restitution to them. At that stage I would have a lot of respect for him.
With regard to the gardening knowledge its a bit like when you see 'good IT skill's' - if your IT skills are poor the bar is not that high.........
Perhaps MD, Toby, Carol and Alan T should do a celebrity Garden(Master)mind with just gardening questions - now I would watch that. Would settle the argument for good, it would be interesting to see what their specialist subject was? Hopefully a suggestion for next years children in need?
Going completely away from the topic I read today that a reality tv star has managed to pay off her debts and come out of bankruptcy with the fee from her last appearance -the problem is she does not have much money coming in and needs to pay her £3000 per month rent and £1800 per term school fees.
Different world..............
Rowan - that must have been horrible - I can't imagine how horrible.
I still think it was right to warn David that the next step, if he chooses to make it - could be tricky.
My nephew and doubtless others make a good living out of defamation cases and that sort of thing.
Always the legal profession that win, isn't it?
T'was ever thus.
On a more human level, it can't be nice for anyone to be constantly got at on a public board

cody
I think the real problem is hidden from most people
During the 80's bancruptcy's ran at about 7,000 a year average
The last figures I saw which were for 2009 the figure including IVA were 134,000
So in 2009 double the number for the whole 80's decade.................
No wonder we are in a mess
The TV reality 'star' needs to find cheaper accommodation - champaign lifestyle on beer money wages - but there are a lot of them about

Nooj
Its not nice - some people are faultless and just get dragged down by feckless people. I have a friend who lost his business, home and family because he was stupid enough to fully re-floor 6 nursing homes the week before they went bust. The guy who owned them was a serial debtor - living in a small stately home - still does. A lot of other tradesmen had been employed to do them up in order to reduce his debt. They all lost money.
very sad
Nooj - It's really irritating how you prowl these boards, seeking to correct people whose views differ from your own and to point out the errors of their ways, in connection with Mr MD.
Be assured I need or welcome any warnings or advice from you; in fact you would be well advised to refrain from posting personal messages involving me.
Read ....Be assured I ‘DON’T need or welcome any warnings or advice from you'.
Even more horrible.
I live qiute happily on a pension from my years in local goverment - but then I don't want much.
We are getting away from the point though - whether it is fair to have a personal go at TV presenters.
Not the celebs who would do anything for a mention, negative or not..
Remember all the personal comments about Christine?
Horrible.
It really says more about the poster than the presenter.
Ps
I think Monty's thighs are just wonderful and I expect his feet are quite nice as well

How I do love these message boards not only for the gardening advice but for the fisticuffs that appear so often. By the way there is a new tv prog with Jeremy Vine(Now there's a nice gentleman) Points of View, just caught it asI was in charge of the remote for a little while whilst its real user was out of the room.
Maybe some of the comments from here cld be aired on Points of View.
Welcome to the new Gardening Board. If this is your first time, then make sure you check out the
