I have been listening to the programme regularly for some time now and find it a thoroughly enjoyable programme. More than the stuffy Q&A show it used to be it now has lots of interesting features and visits. In many ways it outshines Gardeners World in terms of content.
My only problem is that sometimes it would be nice to SEE what's being talked about. Audio descriptions only go so far when they visit a garden or talk about a particular plant. So i was wondering if the GQT format would work as a TV programme? I think it would and could even be popular, especialy with those gardeners who are currently disapointed by Gardeners World.
I quite fancy the idea of starting a campaign on this.

I will be happy to support a 'visual' GQT but only on the weeks that CW isn't in it and MW is.

I guess you would have to look at the makeup of the panel if it went to TV. Personally i like 'CW' but not fussed about 'MW' being on there.
Would you keep the current presenters or change those as well?
There is a lot to be said for this idea-obviously one or two stumblings blocks like appearance fees etc that are bound to be higher than radio-and the format would need to be kept the same and not tinkered with by some clever tv producer.
Just film it as it is and show it -this is a year round programme with this own parochial charm-perhaps 8pm on a Friday night would be a good slot and would complement the the next programme when GW is on
I can at present watch radio programmes live -this is surely just one more step for the ´óÏó´«Ã½
Where do I sign ??
I'll sign too - and if not on tv, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ could film it and put it on its website
A great idea and they should keep the current panel, warts and all, as they do know what they're talking about and we can see their experimental garden when they visit plus all the specimens brought in by the audience and that way we can cover pests and diseases that GW so studioulsy ignores.
Most of the panel are old hands at TV too so no problems there.

Total support from me.
I'm sorry to say I've never ever listened to an entire GQT programme but because it was so cold outside, I listened to today's programme and REALLY liked it. I must make the effort to listen in regularly.
It's usually worth a listen - I have it recorded on series link.
I've never listened to an entire programme before but did listen in on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I must listen in more often.

I dont think it would be too much of a big deal to transfer to TV. They must have a pretty substantial OB team to record the radio shows and they send panelists and presenters off on visits for the show so need a sound recordist for that. You would only need to add a couple of cameras for the Q&A sessions plus a basic mobile setup to go on visits, probably less than news crews need, with today's camera technology. Might have been more difficult/expensive 10 or 20 years ago but not now.
You cant argue either that its too expensive to a show like this in a different location each week for TV. Shows like Antiques Roadshow, Songs of Praise and the closest comparison, Question Time have been doing this for years. Doesnt have to be live either (would be an idea though). GQT is recorded a few weeks in advance.
If anyone involved with GQT or the ´óÏó´«Ã½ in general would like to comment or give some insight into theis then please do.
I went to a recording of GQT. They do 2 shows, one after the other. They have a sound van outside the venue with one person inside and a producer in the hall, holding the mike for the questioners to speak into. They do a show straight through and only do retakes if something goes badly wrong. They get the audience to provide extra clapping for later. Each programme took about 45 mins to be recorded. They tell you to pretend it's afternoon ( it was evening) and have all the questio askers in a line in the front row. They say one programme is from the town's name and the second one is from the area or county. There is about a 3 week gap before it is on the radio
Except when they came to do it in Brussels and did one show in one take plus some extra applause bits and also a show of hands for who'd "gone native" and actually ate and liked chicons (endives) cos they'd done a special piece on the history, cultivation and uses of chicons. Eric couldn't believe anyone actually liked them, cooked or raw.
The recent London show really plumbed the depths, with asinine questions and an unwelcome monopoly of airtime given to Walkden by adopted-Northerner Robson.
This weeks from Denby was far, far better.

Me too
"So I was wondering if the GQT format would work as a TV programme?"
That's a super idea. Warts and all, the old hands, as one poster said. They don't have to look pretty or particularly well groomed, actually it would detract from the credibility. The thread on Quality Outdoor Clothing might provide a few tips...

I find it extremely discurteous that you should address a femail by her surname. What's wrong with saying "Christine Walkden"?
Blame the feminists! I treats mens and wimmins equally.
Is a femail an email sent by a woman ?
I'll get my coat
Also I would like one whole GQT devoted to those garderers Bob F. calls "the old boys", everyone's grandfathers I expect, unless it's us retirees ? Perish the thought !
