    Hello All
Well am I the only one that can smell autumn in the air??
It seems to have come around so early this year.

Just need to ask if anyone else has grown potao SARPO AXONA.
Because of their blight resistance I have grown this variety for the first time this year. (Normally grow Estima)
Well they ain't nice to eat at all. Tried steaming them, chipping them and they seem so dry and lack any great flavour.
Has any one else grown these spuds with better results????
    Cheers.
    Neil

I work for a company which sells a lot of organic potatoes and we trialled Sarpo Axona and Sarpo Mira a few years back. While they have good blight resistance they taste of very little and were never taken up by any of the big commercial companies for that reason. Even supermarkets have a minimum taste threshhold and the Sarpo varieties do not come close.

If you want a variety which combines good blight resistance with flavour, try Sante. Charlotte is grown organically too, has great flavour and is much earlier than Sante or the Sarpo varieties.

I have been growing Axona since before they were even released to the public, and would not be without them. Very Blight and slug resistant, and a big crop when I lift them in October as they are still growing. Yes, they are very floury, which I like. I find that they have a strong earthy taste which improves in storage. They are certainly not bland!!!
I grow about 12 different potato varieties which I eat first. As Axona have a very long dormancy, they will keep till March and April and taste better than anything that you can get in the shops then.
