Some of the plants in my strawberry patch have recenty started to flower and produce strawberries (again?). I have a mixture of Honeoye, Hapil and Elsanta that have got mixed up so can not tell which are cropping. Like alot of people I had a very good crop very early in the season, April - June. My understanding is that these should only crop once a year so any ideas as to what is going on?
I do have some alpines in a different patch which do crop at this time but are very different, smaller leaves and fruit.
I am in Berkshire. Thoughts please.
Hi, there are some varieties of strawberry can produce a second crop in autumn if they have the right conditions. Also removing the leaves right after the summer crop can stimulate plants to produce a second crop. I also have 3 varieties of strawberry, including elsanta and honeoye ( I can't rememberthe 3rd) and I have some plants producing a second crop.
Hope that helps

Mine give a second crop every year in August. I tidy the plants up after the first crop and they set more flowers and crop again.
Thanks for the replies.
They are in advantagous position against a south facing wall. I will give them a good tidy up after the main crop next year and maybe I will get a second crop again.
