Hi all
After this windy spell, may I remind you all to check your sprouts etc. and tread them in securely. The wind really loosened mine. It's worth checking on a regular basis from now on I suppose, especially on open sites.
Do you net your winter cabbages and other brassicas ?
I didn't last year and lost everything in that hard frost. Will do this year, as it may give some shelter. Fingers crossed!
What kind of net please? Mine are doing fairly well. Should I put a bit of fertilizer round too?
Hi Papa, I just use a fine green soft net, doubled. It helps to keep the worst of the wind off. Don't think there's much you can do about the kind of severe frost we had last winter, that got to the roots. A bit of blood fish and bone wouldn't go amiss. Regular treading in is a must tho, they don't like being loose in the soil. You can earth them up to make them more secure.
