I am trying this to improve a patch of poor soil on my allotment.Sown 2 months ago it is growing well! Should I mow or strim it to reduce the length(about 10" tall now)? I'd like to leave till the red clover flowers next year. Will it be difficult to dig in?could I rotavate it instead?will it grow again once dug in?OR should I cover with black sheeting and let it die down?
Your ideas welcome.David

Let it grow for now. Cut it down @ start of Feb and leave on the surface for a fortnight to wilt. Then dig it in 2 - 3 weeks before you want to plant anything. Regrowth is not a problem in my experience
Cheers
I let my rye grass grow as long as I can....I then cut it down and cover with some black pvc but I find it needs about six weeks under the pvc to rot it off well or it grows back when you uncover it.
I sow beans, mustard and winter tears...the frost cuts the mustard back and I just cover it, the rest I cut down and use in the compost bin then cover with pvc....when its comes to feb I just dig the roots in.
Whatsthemarrow...
