Hi we have started an allotment at our preschool and would like to know what we can plant in the winter.

I'd really concentrate on getting the plot in really good condition, and finding out what the kids will eat, and want to grow, ready for an early start after christmas. You could try to obtain some polythene to make tunnel cloches, and get some fleece- maybe a local garden centre may sponsor you by supplying seeds, or materials for free. You could get the kids cutting hazel for the tunnel hoops through btcv, or your local wildlife trust. Best of luck with this, I'm trying to organize something similar at our village school in Ireland, but the beauracracy...

Do you know the rigmarole with broad bean seeds, a clearish plastic pint pot and blotting paper? It would get them thinking about how seeds grow and gravity? Cheers, Tony.
