I've just spent the morning clearing the tomatoes out of the greenhouse and most of them have split. Some have started to go mouldy but others have clean breaks. My question is are these safe to eat, given a good rinse ?
Many thanks in anticipation.

Yes safe to eat, I've eaten the mouldy ones after cutting out the mouldy bit ! Cheers, Tony.
For some reason split tomatoes always taste sweeter to me-why is that?
Would not fancy the mouldy ones but I would use the split ones for cooking- but use them up fairly quickly.
The split ones will make realy nice soup if there red and if not make green tom jam.
Whatsthemarrow...
Thanks all. They are all from the only 4 Gardners Delight plants that survived. All my outdoor varieties succumbed to blight in early August. Amazing really to still be picking in November. I'm wondering now if i was too hasty in clearing them out and maybe should have left them another couple of weeks.
Exactly the same happened to my Gardeners' Delight - which were in a greenhouse. I left them for two days without checking them out, and the rats got them, leaving me with a handful of split and green toms. I got the rats, don't you worry - four big fat ones caught with Snickers bars in traps - but at the end of the day I can't get the green ones to ripen. What a waste, and there are too few to make into chutney.
