Hi
I have only just bought winter onions.
Shall I plant them in the greenhouse in the old tomato compost or
Shall I plant them in the ( cold ) ground on the allotment
I have just planted four lines yesterday the ground is,nt really cold yet well not down here anyway I am assuming that your soil is reasonably well drained so as not to have onions too wet as this will encourage rot .

Get them in the ground, overwintering (Japanese) onions are as tough as old boots, and also it's still very mild for this time of year.
