Most advice on cutting back says to do so when the foliage turns yellow. Mine was still green when I cut back yesterday and was amazed to see a few new spears appearing. I hope that doesn't affect next year's crop. I suppose the soil here is unusually wet and until recently quite warm.
I think it must be the warm autumn as I cut mine down in September when the leaves and stem started yellowing and up to three weeks ago it had grown back to 600m high. The frosts of the last week have stopped all that and I hope that it wiil come back in the spring.

It's been such a mild autumn that lots of spring things have been seen out of season. Asparagus is tough stuff I don't expect next year's yield will be affected.
