I have grown some broad beans in a small polytunnel. They are already flowering despite the recent heavy frosts in this area. Will they produce beans without being pollinated by insects?
They can self pollinate but will produce more beans if insect pollinated.
Many thanks Daintiness. You have confirmed what I thought.
You can always help pollination with the use of a small paintbrush - my family always say they know spring has come when I go off to the greenhouse with a paintbrush in my hand to 'interfere' with my peach shrub inside it!
