At the edible garden show last week James Wong talked about (among other things) a bamboo that grows in this country that produces edible bamboo shoots.

I wrote down the name as Finus stachus aureus. I know now that it's not right, Does anyone know the variety please?

    That sounds like Phyllostachys Aurea.

It's an attractive plant in its own right, and very useful for evergreen screening.

They don't spread by runners, so are safe to grow.

But they can still become very large. If you have a small garden, growing one in a pot looks good, and helps to constrain growth.

    Thanks,
I've just looked them up on the website, and they're very expensive. I agree they do look beautiful, but If I'm mainly going to use them for the odd stir fry I thinks probably uneconomic!

    Thanks anyway,
