My allotment has been deceived by the unseasonal temperatures. The plum is a frothy mass of blossom, the asparagus on the neighbouring plot is poking through. Just checked the forecast.....,as the sayin goes, "Aye cast a cloot 'till May is oot" !
gaffelbiter whats a cloot and why are you named after my fav raw herring.
"Aye cast a cloot 'till May is ootÂ
I know the expression as; Ner cast a cloot till may is oot!
Translated means;
Ner = Never
Cast = Remove
Cloot - An item of clothing
May = Is the May flower (Hawthorn) as opposed to the month.
Till = 'till'
Oot = In bloom
It was a nickname I was given when I worked in Norway. Yes they are delicious. Hard to come by here though. I used to be able to get them from an Italian deli. A friend brought me a couple of tins when he went skiing in Norway this year. A certain Swedish company sells something similar, but it comes in a jar - for me they have to come out of a tin like sardines. Totally irrational.
