Is it possible to grow a Butternut Squash using the seeds from one that was purchased from a supermarket ??
If yes, how do I go about it, do you have to dry the seeds out first?
any answers would be gratefully received.
I don't think you'll grow a true B-Squash using seeds from inside a shop bought one. The same applies to pumpkins.
Best buy a packet of seeds.
Haven't tried this myself, but have had Butternut Squash germinating and fruiting here from seed in my home made compost. So it should be possible. Why not sow a few and see?
They are very promiscious and so your seeds may not grow true, especially if the are F1 which is very likely from a commercial crop.
They are also, apparently not the easiest of the squashes to grow.
It will grow, but not produce a true tasting squash due to cross contamination with pollination
Thanks very much for all of your thoughts. I guess that for a bit of fun I will try sowing a few of the seeds just to see what happens.
