I have some plants growing which look like young onions , they are red at the base of the plant but have several tiny bulbs at the root not just one and the plant smells 'oniony' ! Could these be garlic ? I have never grown garlic and not sure if they can be propagated from seeds blowing from a neighbouring plot ? I thought the only way to grow garlic was by planting the 'cloves' !! Can anyone solve this mystery for me please ??
If a neighbour has allowed it to go to seed then they probably eended up on yours.
Or 'wild onions', they are a pest. Cheers, Tony.
Do you have s pic? It might help identify the allium in question.
Sound like Welsh Onions to me. Very useful as they stand well through the winter and can be used as Spring Onions. If they are keep a clump going.
