Just to close my topic on the sprouts and club root - I had to wait until the end of Feb to get a decent sized sprout off the stalks and when I lifted them the roots were incredibly small. No sign of clubroot though. As I hadn't grown them for many years l can't remember how big a root should be - however I am sure they ought to have been bigger. Anyway - 15 years is a long time to not plant them and now I am moving house so I am hoping my new garden will be clubroot free!
Thanks
Tg sorry not to reply earlier I had massive online problems now sorted. The sprouts were Peer Gynt I think and I had added home-made compost last Sept but not checked the Ph levels. 1/2 of them were in light shade from a nearby hedge but the others were in open land with no visible difference in the plants at all surprisingly. Ho hum.
Lillian, did you remember to tamp down the earth after digging? Sprouts need a firm soil to get good roots, and good sprouts.
