Too late for me this year as I have planted all my potatoes, but a thought just came to me .
When planting seed potatoes, I generally rub off any shoot that won't face upwards when planted.
However is it better to have just one good shoot or more, and does this affect the yield?
Does more shoots mean a biiger crop?
sorry should read Bigger crop
just a typing error
It is thought in some circles. . . .
that if you want fewer, but larger spuds, rub off all shoots but one. For more spuds, but smaller, leave all shoots on.
You can believe it or take it with a pinch of salt. Or carry out a trial. Cheers, Tony.
Hi,
thanks for that, it would seem to make sense, but as you say I will trial it next time.
Another thing I thought of was.
Does a large seed potato grow large spuds, and a small one grow small spuds?
Another trial coming up.
thanks again

it depends on spud variety
