Is Boscombe the new Sandbanks?

With Boscombe now seeing property priced at 拢1m+, and work on a surf reef - the only one in Europe - starting soon, could the Bournemouth suburb start to give its exclusive Poole neighbour a run for its money? Have your say.

Amid fears of a national house price crash, property in the seaside suburb of Boscombe seems to be bucking the trend, with some prices holding steady.

And with confirmation that Boscombe's artificial surf reef is to be finished by December 2008, property in the area is expected to only go up in value.

Although Boscombe has had its fair share of social problems involving street violence, drugs and alcohol abuse, some locals are suggesting the place is most definitely on the up.

But how high could this upward mobility reach? Could Boscombe become as desirable as its neighbouring idyllic peninsula Sandbanks?

Multi-million pound property

A few miles along the coast and close to Poole Harbour, the exclusive area of Sandbanks is home to multi-million pound property and has a reputation as one of the most expensive places to live in the world.

So 大象传媒 Radio Solent's Julian Clegg Breakfast show asked the question - is Boscombe the new Sandbanks?

Says one Boscombe resident: "Boscombe is never going to Sandbanks. It's much better than Sandbanks!"

And another view: "There's fantastic work going on down at the seafront in Boscombe - I think over the next three years you will see a marked improvement and it will become one of the best areas to visit in the county."

Listen to the audio as residents from both areas have their say - and if you've got a view to share, you can leave your comment below.

Boscombe is way above sea level in comparison to Sandbanks so more sense to invest there, thinking of rising sea levels Sandbanks will be no more in years to come only a marina

We spent six years trying to locate the best place on Bournemouth bay and settled for Boscombe Mannor. The views, the cliff walks and beaches are the best, people are friendly and the town will very soon improve. Sandbanks is just over crowded and tacky by comparison.

Olly
The sand will never compare to that at sandbanks, and the harbour veiws are spectacular in the early evening

simon
boscombe will never compare to sandbanks, its a mess.full of muggers and drug heads and needles left in the streets

Lionel Westell
Tidy it up, get rid of the drug dealers, police the streets once again and Boscome will return to its former glory days as a family resort.

Elliot
Boscombe will never be the next sandbanks. It may have the magnificent seaside properties, but it will always be known as drug dealers alley. People that have 1m+ will not pay to live in the boscombe area with the reputation its got. Its just that one word that says it all, SANDBANKS. And once you heard the words Boscombe and Sandbanks you know the one thats got the most elegance.

Jon, Southbourne
Boscombe is split into two very different halves. One half is booming from investment and regeneration and the other is a virtual no go area suffering from crime, drugs and prostitution.

Dave, Bournemouth
Sandbanks is a lovely place to walk around and has great beaches, but it has almost no facilities. There is one bar/restaurant in Sandbanks and one newsagent. Boscombe has great beaches, gardens, shops and restaurants and has better transport links. It is attracting investment where Sandbanks excludes people. They are two entirely different places.
