Peter Jones was enthusiastic about Celia and Ian's festival for students in the Den but has the tide gone out for the event since?
After the Den, with Peter’s advice Celia and Ian entered into a business partnership with student travel specialists Outgoing. Although they declined the Dragon’s money, Celia tells us that Peter offered valuable guidance to help them secure the best deal for their company.
The inaugural event was documented for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three in . Things really kicked off for the duo since 2008 as they've had the contacts and confidence to book acts such as The Wombats, The Enemy, Dizzee Rascal and The Mystery Jets.
As Celia explains, the event has seen its fair share of ups and downs: "The nature of events is that you never quite know what's going to happen and we've had everything from no staff caterers to a very challenging last minute site move."
Despite losing planning permission for their seaside location at the last minute Beach Break Live went ahead in June complete with sand, paddling pools and Rhinos at Port Lympne Safari Park in Kent.
Selling 10,000 tickets for the event, reviews were positive and with students' short-term cash flow relatively unaffected by the downturn, the BBL team are looking forward to securing a permanent location for future events.
Celia was interviewed for this article on 22 July 2009
