Getting Started - audio
Before you start making your 60 Second Shakespeare, make sure you've got all the equipment you need.
To make an audio, you will need the following basics:
听
|
Digital sound recording equipment Something like a minidisc, DAT or hard disc recording device. Don't use cassette tape recorders - the sound isn't good enough.
| |
Separate microphone You could try using the in-built microphone on your recording equipment, but it won't sound very good at all. Use a separate microphone if you can.
| |
Headphones For checking that the sound is alright as you record. They can save a lot of disappointment later.
| |
A computer Any reasonably new computer should do, whether Mac or PC. It will need to have a sound card in it, otherwise you're not going to get very far.
| |
Cable to connect to computer For a hard-disc recording device, like an iRiver, you'll probably need a Firewire cable (top). For minidisc or DAT, you'll need a minijack to minijack (or possibly USB) cable which probably came with the device (bottom).

Editing software There are many good sound editing packages available, often for free. The list below is not exhaustive, but if you do go for one not mentioned here, make sure it does multi-track editing. Good packages include:
|
SoundForge's Audacity, a good, easy to use package, which can be downloaded for free from the . This is the package used in the audio editing video tutorials on this site.
Adobe Audition (previously known as Cool Edit Pro. (PC only) A good package, used very widely. Not free, but a trial version is available from the site.
ProTools. A package used by sound industry professionals - probably not the best one for starters. A limited version is available to download from the website. The 大象传媒 is not responsible for the content of external sites.
