About this film
We chose this play as it is the Shakespeare play we have been studying for AS level. We intended to express an important and interesting theme of the play, magic, by creating a dramatic piece rather than telling the actual story. The performance consists of non diagetic sound as we felt it reflected the mood and themes of the play and fitted in with our directorial approach creating a strong thematic effect. Our aim was to express Prospero's power through giving him control over the island and characters. We did this by showing Prospero as a puppet master with all the other characters as his puppets. We looked at five key scenes where magic is used, and bound the character's hands with different coloured ribbons to express each of their characteristics.
