By Merchant Taylors' Girls School, teacher Sian Tickle
Featuring Ellen as Beth, Maud as Sara Duncan, Sarah as Friend #1, Ashleigh as Friend #2, Zoe as Friend #3 and Kelly as the Drama Teacher. Concept, screenplay and direction by Gayathri.
I interpreted Macbeth in my own way - I took the story and set it in the day wiith Macbeth as a teenage girl (Beth) who is angry that someone else (Sarah Duncan) has the main role in the local drama production instead of her. Beth, like her Shakespearean counterpart, gives into her hamartia and resorts to desparate measures to get what she wants - as we see in the last scene. Like Macbeth, Beth is influenced by predictions of the future, except in this case the three witches have been replaced by the horoscope section of a magazine.
what I wanted to get across was how ambition can corrupt anyone, and also to challenge sterotypes by making the Macbeth character female. I have also strictly adhered to the time limit.
