大象传媒 News School Report

Students from Top Valley School and Engineering College in Nottingham took over East Midlands Today for 大象传媒 School News Report.

School Report

Seven students aged 11-13 have been working with mentors from 大象传媒 East Midlands to become journalists, cameraman and editors.

The 大象传媒 has put them through their paces - screening testing them in the 大象传媒 TV studios in Nottingham - giving them the chance to try out weather presenting and taking them out into city to talk to people on the streets.

Interviewing Cllr Graham Chapman

They've also interviewed the deputy leader of Nottingham City Council, a Nottingham University archaeologist and their head teacher for their reports.

The students came up with a range of stories they wanted to cover - including why they are going to be wearing blazers and ties from September and asked the question why doesn't the East Midlands have a big landmark like the Angel of the North.

On Thursday 26th March 2009 Hannah and Ryan presented part of East Midlands Today - watch out Anne and Dominic!听And Tamara co-presented the weather with Des Coleman. Their films also featured in the programme.

In front of the camera

Across the East Midlands 22 schools took part in School News Report - an annual event. The aim was to get young people interested in the news and give them the chance to set the news agenda for the day.

Paul Burrows, TVSEC Assistant Head says: "It has been a truly amazing experience working with the 大象传媒. We have had the opportunity to take part in something so special that it will provide unforgettable memories for the pupils involved.

"We have seen at first hand the hard work and multitasking that goes on both in front of and behind the cameras," Paul continues.

The new Des Coleman?

"We have had the privilege of working alongside a variety of experienced professionals who have fully engaged with us and allowed us a truly unique insight into the production of 大象传媒 East Midlands Today.

"Everything from sitting on the sofa and reading the autocue through to interviewing the public in Nottingham city centre has been so enriching," Paul adds.

"We are all so familiar now听with the terminology of 'voice over', 'piece to camera' and 'vox pops' that you would think we were pros!"
