Brenda Jones is a painter from Colchester and has a studio based at Cuckoo Farm, whose most recent collection was of paintings of Jaywick. Brenda hanging a painting of Jaywick She says: "Jaywick is a town with particular visual interest." The pictures include views of the local caravan parks, and parts of the town. There are also abstract depictions of grass and the environment around Jaywick.听听 But why paint this North Essex town? "I think it's quite an intriguing place because it's got a very strong sense of character of 'old seaside-ness' - as it used to be in days gone by. A lot of it has faded away and become derelict. "For me, I'm interested in derelict services and shapes of buildings, characters of buildings, the gardens and the space between them - this inspires me.听 Brenda with one of her Jaywick paintings "The more I get to walk around I see other things of interest, such as the grass lands and I find this an intriguing mix with new growth taking over the derelict." At the start of the decade Brenda returned to education as a mature student to study art at the Colchester Institute then went on to do an MA in Norwich. "I found it helped me to become aware of the contemporary art world by studying and it's been a strong benefit for me." last updated: 14/01/2009 at 11:48 SEE ALSOYou are in: Essex > Entertainment > Arts & Culture > A fresh look at Jaywick
