Follow Michael as he's given the chance to display his version of the 'Hay Wain' at Flatford Mill.
Michael Goodey makes art out of road traffic signs. He already has a cycle trail displaying his landscapes around Colchester and now he's working on a series of pictures based on the works of John Constable. Michael is often inspired by the landscape and countryside around Colchester and has visited Flatford Mill, the scene of Constable's famous 'Hay Wain' on many occasions. He uses authentic materials used in the making of genuine road signs and he's been given the chance to display his version of the 'Hay Wain' at Flatford Mill. Since Constable painted his famous painting at the site it's developed into a major tourist attraction. Michael Goodey and his sign Originally displayed in 1821 at the Royal Academy in London, the 'Hay Wain' failed to find a buyer.听听听 It was only when Constable took the painting to France that it met with approval and gained a Gold Medal from Charles X. The original 'Hay Wain' is on display at the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, London.
