As it heads into a new era, artistic director Anthony Baker tells us what the future has instore for DanceDigital. The change of name better reflects our artistic outlook and our national and international ambitions.听 We are an enabling organisation, not a dance companyWe commission new work from choreographers and companies, have a series of associate artists, lead on the intellectual debate surrounding dance and technology through a series of symposia, award a bursary to a local artist each year and programme work into the region through our partner venues. Through our work we want to engage with audiencesWe believe there is a huge potential audience for our work and we utilise a number of different ways to communicate.听 Bringing new performances to Essex We are currently developing a new website, which will be much more user driven and provide a much better experience, where people will be able to watch live performances, past performances and interact with us.听 We position work in accessible places, such as town centres, shopping centres or online. DanceDigital is an ambitious organisation and aims to be at the forefront of the dance and technology sector in England and a significant player internationally.听 We are committed to developing the art-form of dance and technology and encourage investigation, exploration, adventure and risk taking in this area for the creation of great art.听 We aim to find and support the most promising and pioneering new talents in dance and technology, who can take audiences places they didn't know existed.
We work with the professional dance sector, in education and with communities.听 Our education work includes delivering support work for teachers along with teaching in schools.听 We also work across communities, delivering targeted projects across Essex, though particularly in the Chelmsford Borough, such as break and street dance sessions. Embracing technologyFuture projects include a mobile learning experiment called MoLE, in which we will utilise mobile phone technology so that a choreographer can create a new piece of work with dancers but without a studio.听 The work will all be done over the mobile telephone, using written and spoken work and video.听 Waves, a major new dance commission We will be programming work from Europe and the US, providing an opportunity for audiences to see cutting-edge work from overseas.听 Dancers will also have the opportunity to work with choreographers from all over the world, building new skills and learning about other dance styles.听 We will also have our new dance studio, called Create, by the end of April in Chelmsford Town Centre. We are always happy to hear from people about ideas for our work and other comments. last updated: 10/03/2009 at 15:26 SEE ALSOYou are in: Essex > Entertainment > Arts & Culture > Dance goes digital
