Students in Tendring work on reports

Students in Tendring work on reports.

And some news just in...

Many students across Essex have been taking part in the 大象传媒's School Report Day. They've been learning about making news headlines and working towards deadlines. For some it could be their first steps along a new career path...

Students from several schools across Essex were taking part in the 大象传媒's School Report Day and trying their hand at being news reporters.

"Yeah I enjoyed it and I thought it was a good experience."

Emily, Tendring Technology College

The annual news day run by the 大象传媒 gives young people across the UK the chance to make their own news to real deadlines and broadcast it to real audiences.听

Among those taking part were geography students from Tendring Technology College.

The students from years 7, 8 and 9 covered a broad range of topics. One student reported back from a drug awareness roadshow, others tackled environmental issues, and two of the students spoke to pupils in the school about "What it's like to be you!"

Lead by their teacher Valentina Burley, the students researched their stories and filmed some of the interviews before School Report Day, but then it was a case of working hard on the day to pull the nine pieces together for a 2pm deadline.

As the deadline crept closer the students worked really hard to edit their interviews, write and record their links and have everything ready.

Richard Martin from 大象传媒 Essex interviews students

大象传媒 Essex's Richard Martin in Tendring.

"It was really exciting, but it was quite a bit of a rush at the end," explained Ralph.

After a few technical issues and a lot of rushing around at ten to two, all the links and features were finally recorded and finished.

The students were very pleased and relieved that the day had gone so successfully.

"Yeah I enjoyed it and I thought it was a good experience," said Emily.

Speaking after the event one of the students Emily said that while she had enjoyed the experience, she wouldn't be a journalist!

大象传媒 Essex reporter Richard Martin was on hand to offer advice at the college: "The students were all very talented. I'll have to watch out for my job!"

Other students across Essex created video, audio and text-based news reports, and you can see them on the special 大象传媒 School Report site:
