About This Event
Friday Night is Music Night returns to the airwaves in its new ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3 home as tenor Wynne Evans, violinist Aleksey Semenenko and the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra conducted by Chief Conductor Anna-Maria Helsing bring you much-loved melodies from around the world, in an evening featuring tune after tune.
Alexandra Palace is truly the People’s Palace: a place for happy memories and great tunes. Tonight, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra delivers bumper helpings of both, as conductor Anna-Maria Helsing teams up with star tenor (and Celebrity Masterchef winner) Wynne Evans and virtuoso violinist Aleksey Semenenko (a former ´óÏó´«Ã½ New Generation Artist) for an evening of glorious melodies.
There’s operatic glamour from Wynne, with hits by Puccini and Ivor Novello, as well as a haunting folksong from the land of his fathers. We’ve got big-screen thrills from The Magnificent Seven, and ear-dazzling wizardry from Aleksey, in violin showpieces by the king of Viennese light music Fritz Kreisler. And joining it altogether, favourite classics by Sibelius, Glinka and our very own Master of the King’s Music, Dame Judith Weir.
Old ones, new ones, loved ones…and perhaps a few favourites you’ve yet to discover! Plus a few surprises - and we think you’ll love those too.
