Concert Information
As part of ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3’s 'Berlioz - The Ultimate Romantic' weekend marking the 150th anniversary of the composer’s death, this concert at Alexandra Palace Theatre explores Berlioz from a dramatic perspective.
Actor Simon Paisley Day reads extracts from Berlioz’s entertaining memoirs interspersed with his greatest romantic music.
A leading actress takes on some of Shakespeare’s finest female roles including Ophelia, the character that first attracted Berlioz to his future wife Harriet Smithson. He was entranced by the sound of her voice, even though (as a non-English speaker) he had no idea what she was saying.
The programme features music from Berlioz’s stage works, reflecting his innate sense of the dramatic, and the vibrant young violinist Esther Yoo joins the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra and Principal Conductor Bramwell Tovey to perform the rarely-heard, lyrical and capricious Reverie and Caprice.
This concert will be broadcast live on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3 and presented by Georgia Mann.
Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that as not everyone who asks for tickets uses them, to make sure we have a full house we send out more tickets than there are places. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people so please arrive early.
