Concert information
Asian sounds and colours permeate the first Hear and Now of the orchestra鈥檚 2017/18 Season. Claude Vivier鈥檚 piece reflects the famous book by Hermann Hesse depicting a spiritual journey of a young man in search of enlightenment. Hesse鈥檚 poem 'Im Nebel' ('In the Mist') also inspired a trumpet concerto in 2013 by the Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa (here receiving its UK Premiere) while his countryman Toru Takemitsu is represented by his tribute to the US composer Morton Feldman. Stravinsky's tone poem based on Hans Christian Andersen's tale, 'The Nightingale' begins this concert conducted by the 大象传媒 SSO鈥檚 Artist-in-Association, Matthias Pintscher.
The works by Toshio Hosokawa, Takemitsu and Vivier will be broadcast later tonight (10.00pm) on 大象传媒 Radio 3's 'Hear and Now';
Stravinsky's 'Le Chant du rossignol' will be recorded for future broadcast on 大象传媒 Radio 3.
Tickets available from Monday 2 October 2017
