John Tavener鈥檚 visionary music has spoken directly and emotionally to audiences since the 1960s 鈥� never more so than when his Song for Athene was heard at the funeral of Princess Diana. Following his death in November 2013 (whilst this year鈥檚 Festival programme was being finalised) John Rutter described him as a composer 鈥渢ouched by genius at every point鈥� who 鈥渃ould bring an audience to a deep silence which is a very rare gift鈥�.
