Iconic And Ambiguous

One of the joys of 6 Music Fest is that it gives us the opportunity to bring lots of our favourite bands into one room to watch as they translate the records we love to the stage. That’s certainly the case with Outfit, ranking high in our list of 2013 discoveries, the Liverpool quintet are set for one hell of a year. Marc Riley was first up to book a session back in June, and it wasn’t long before Lauren had invited them in and the art-rockers were dropping guest mixes for Tom Ravenscroft.

The self-proclaimed “independent Beyoncé’s at heart” make the effort to stand out from the crowd. Debut album Performance has been 3 years in the making, recorded across 3 locations as the group made an “endless search for something that might not exist”. Guitarist Nicholas Hunt describes the hard work as a “desire to sound both iconic and ambiguous”.

All that endeavour paid off, singles Two Islands and Thank God I Was Playing made the 6 Music playlist in 2013, while a burgeoning fan base started banging on the doors of Double Denim for news on an album release. By 6 Music Fest we’ll have 3 months of listening under our belts. We’re counting the days until we can see it live.
