Concert information
Pianist Louis Schwizgebel joins the orchestra to perform Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto (Emperor) for tonight's concert at Leeds Town Hall.
Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 5, his last completed piano concerto, is a flood of beautiful and intense sound. The epithet given to this three movement work after Beethoven’s death depicts its stature, difficulty and impressiveness.
Mozart’s Don Giovanni features his liveliest, most extreme and most romantic music, with the melodramatic and kaleidoscopic overture perfectly outlining the synopsis of this dark opera.
Whilst it took Brahms fourteen years to complete his first symphony, his second – with its cheerful and flowing melodies – was penned in just a single summer holiday, and led to a series of triumphant European concert tours.
