Concert information
Passions run high in our first Edinburgh Sunday afternoon concert of the 2017/18 season. Tchaikovsky’s Shakespeare-inspired overture depicts both a storm at sea and youthful romance with equal abandon, while his 'Pathétique' Symphony plunges us into the depths of despair even as it soars to heights of musical intensity. Has true anguish ever sounded so ravishing? And at the heart of the concert, melancholic songs of beauty and longing from a composer who was anything but a stiff old Edwardian gent, sung here by the great Scottish mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill.
