Concert Information

Both Felix Mendelssohn and Sakari Oramo have strong links to the city of Birmingham, which in 1846 saw the premiere of the composer’s grand and spectacular musical telling of events from the life, death and ascension of the prophet Elijah. Oramo gathers a stellar quarter of soloists – including a baritone at the peak of his powers in the title role, Johan Reuter – for this collaboration between the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Symphony Orchestra and its Chorus.

Mendelssohn’s work is known for pomp and circumstance, doom and wrath, but this performance is sure to remind us that Elijah is a work of heart, spirit, tenderness and detail too.
