Sibelius鈥檚 Second Symphony, one of his most fiercely nationalistic works, is the highlight of Principal Conductor Thomas S酶nderg氓rd鈥檚 first concert of the season. It鈥檚 paired with B Tommy Andersson鈥檚 The Garden of Delights, which takes inspiration from a painting by the Dutch artist Bosch. In between, Danish soprano Ann Petersen sings the last four songs by Richard Strauss, which hint at his foreboding illness and consequent death, matched with his own climactic creative surge.
