Concert Information

This evening’s magnificent programme features music by Elgar and Brahms, under conductor Michael Seal – a regular collaborator with the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Philharmonic.

Combining the singing quality of Beethoven’s with the symphonic drama of Brahms’s, Elgar’s Violin Concerto is one of the most virtuosic in the repertoire. Tonight we are joined by violinist, Tasmin Little, who won the Critics Award at the Classic Brit Awards for her recording of this very piece.

Dubbed "Beethoven’s 10th" at the Symphony's premiere, the instant success of his First Symphony must have come as a welcome relief to Brahms after taking 14 years to complete because he felt the weight of Beethoven’s legacy so much on his shoulders.
