Concert Information
Ben Glassberg closes the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Philharmonic’s 2022-23 Bridgewater Hall season with a dazzling programme of twentieth century treasures. Starting with a whisper from one of Britain’s lesser-known composers, Ethel Smyth’s Prelude to Act II, ‘On the Cliffs of Cornwall’ from The Wreckers precedes and predicts Britten’s revolutionary operas and is equally as tantalising as it is radiant. Britten’s bravura Piano Concerto, a welcome chance for Steven Osborne to show off his virtuosic flair in the glistening textures and quirky interplay between piano and orchestra. Lastly, an explosive showstopper in the Symphonic Dances – Rachmaninov’s love-letter to his homeland and his final work.
