About this event

Andris Nelsons conducts the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and soprano Kristine Opolais in Desdemona’s poignant Willow Song and Ave Maria from Act 3 of Verdi’s 1887 opera Otello and Tatyana’s touching Letter Scene from Tchaikovsky’s 1879 opera Eugene Onegin.

Shot through with birdsong and Bohemian dance rhythms, Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony was the last to be completed in the Old World before he left for New York in 1892. A pair of popular Johann Strauss favourites concludes this matinee Prom with Viennese sparkle.

Watch and listen to more music by Tchaikovsky at the Proms.
