Elgar鈥檚 great choral work, The Music Makers, is the musical culmination of a career, drawing together quotations from many of the composer鈥檚 best-loved pieces. Vaughan Williams鈥檚 luminous 鈥楾allis鈥� Fantasia and Hugh Wood鈥檚 Comus complete the programme.

About This Event

Sir Andrew Davis conducts the 大象传媒 Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly in Elgar鈥檚 last great choral work.

The Music Makers is the musical culmination of a career, drawing together quotations from many of the composer鈥檚 best-loved pieces, including the 鈥楨nigma鈥� Variations and Sea Pictures, and weaving them into a musical manifesto for the power of art.

The concert also includes Vaughan Williams鈥檚 luminous Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis for double string orchestra and Hugh Wood鈥檚 lyrical setting of scenes from Milton鈥檚 pastoral masque Comus.
