About this event

More J. S. Bach, both unalloyed and as the basis for improvisation. Then Cameron Carpenter’s grandest challenge yet: the ‘Syncretic Prelude and Fugue’ proceeds from the ‘ultimate’ chaconne to an astonishing transformation of the finale of Mahler’s Fifth, demonstrating its own links with Bachian practice.

Says Cameron, ‘The pairing of these two works is something I’ve only been able to attempt on a very few of the great organs of the world … it pushes me to my extreme utmost of both virtuosity
and expressivity, which is exactly how I’d hope to perform at the Proms.’
