Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin pays homage to the stylings of bygone French keyboard music – each movement taking the form of a traditional Baroque dance, and dedicated to friends of the composer who had died fighting in World War I.
Meanwhile, two world premieres offer their own goodbyes: Thea Musgrave’s In Memoriam pays tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II and features violinist Johan Dalene and oboist Nicholas Daniel, whilst Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Adieu is a parting gift to former ´óÏó´«Ã½ Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Director Paul Hughes.
Bridging the gap between these two gestures, another riveting feature from Ravel – the virtuosic rhapsody, Tzigane, for which Johan Dalene once again takes up the violin.
