Wilma Slaghoople (Johnson) is a bored little rich girl, feted by Chip Rockefeller (Thomas Gibson) who decides to run away and ends up first with ever-helpful Betty O'Shale (Krakowski). The pair seem to be heading for romantic bliss with double-daters Fred Flintstone (Addy) and Barney Rubble (Baldwin) but Chip's got other plans.
You should make other plans too. Director Brian Levant is an extreme fan of the original cartoon "Flintstones" and, as with his 1994 version, this could not be more faithful in bringing every dinosaur prop and every dinosaur-age pun to the big screen.
But he and the very many writers are also faithful to the worst character in the show, an alien named 'Gazoo', and to the complete absence of any story worth speaking of. There is no more plot in this movie than there is in the cartoon and you have to share Levant's obsession to enjoy anything here.
That's not to say that everything is bad in this film: at a push, you can say that Jane Krakowski is a much better 'Betty' than Rosie O'Donnell was in the 1994 movie - but this is not a film she'll be adding to her CV. And everyone will find at least one good gag in the film. But unless you're a child who can find the bright colours entertaining, that's it.
If you've ever wondered how Betty and Wilma ended up marrying such losers as Fred and Barney, this film will just make you wonder all over again.
