Despite being adorned with many fine reviews for the movie, the DVD cover for "Tumbleweeds" carries a prominent blurb proclaiming 'Added Value: Trailer'. If this startling act of generosity on behalf of the distributor should tempt you to buy the disc, then please note that the trailer suffers from some rather nasty colour imbalances.
Thankfully the film itself is also on the DVD and is nicely mastered.
The widescreen anamorphic transfer copes well with the sun-drenched Californian settings, presenting them in a fresh and vivid picture. Even the high contrast pink clouds against a powder blue sky in chapter nine remain sharp and strong.
The sound is a little less exciting but it's a clean 2.0 mix that efficiently balances music and dialogue.
Aside from the trailer, no possible insight is offered by the DVD into the movie itself. Given that it has garnered so many positive reviews, and that Janet McTeer won a Golden globe and an Oscar nomination, you'd think that extra features would be appreciated. Even more ridiculous is the complete lack of any subtitles for the hearing impaired.
