听 "L'Appartement" is a film of such bold elegance that it is essential to experience it on DVD, if not on the big screen.
This is one of the first of a back catalogue of fine arthouse features from Artificial Eye to come out on DVD. Unfortunately while the audience for these titles is loyal, it remains small. This restricts the revenue needed to justify the cost of added features. And at least for now, discs from Artificial Eye will be limited in that respect.
The good news is that the transfer of film to disc is highly complimentary to this daring feature. The stylish art direction and stunning locations ooze sophistication in an anamorphic transfer that's vivid and clear.
The 2.0 sound mix is a revelation of detail and sturdy bass effects cloak you in the intriguing atmosphere of the movie.
The extra features offer filmographies and a trailer that sadly doesn't include subtitles. Still, it's a minor complaint for an otherwise delicious DVD.
